  2. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  3.  
  4. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  5. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  6. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  7. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  8. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  9. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  10. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  12. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  13. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  14. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  15. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  16. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  17. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  18. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  19. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  20. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  21. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  22. Shareware.

  24. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  25. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  26. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  27. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
  28. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
  29. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  30. product, you don't pay for it.

  34. Users of Hang4 must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
  35. "Hang4 is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all
  36. warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
  37. the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
  38. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
  39. quential, which may result from the use of Hang4."

  41. Hang4 is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  42. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  43. friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  44. another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  45. provide personal computer users with quality software without
  46. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to

  49. continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  50. useful and find that you are using Hang4 and continue to use
  51. Hang4 after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
  52. istration payment of $15 to Larry Parker, 2049 Bunch Way,
  53. Carson, Nv. 89706.  This is for private use only.  The $15
  54. registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
  55. computer at any one time.  You must treat this software just like
  56. a book.  An example is that this software may be used by any
  57. number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
  58. location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
  59. being used at one location while it's being used at another.
  60. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
  61. same time.

  63. Schools or commercial users must pay $55 dollars per site license.
  64. Fees for outside the U.S.A. are to be paid in US funds of $20, $5
  65. of this goes for shipping & handling of future upgrades.

  67. Anyone distributing Hang4 for any kind of remuneration must
  68. first contact Larry Parker at the address below for authorization.
  69. This authorization will be automatically granted to distributors
  70. recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for
  71. shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering
  72. Hang4 immediately (However Larry Parker must still be advised so
  73. that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
  74. version of Hang4.).

  76. You are encouraged to pass a copy of Hang4 along to your
  77. friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their
  78. copy if they find that they can use it.  All registered users
  79. will receive a copy of the latest version of the HangMan
  80. system.

  84. REQUIREMENTS

  86. This program has been tested on a 286-8mhz to a 486-66mhz.
  87. From 144k memory to 16 megabytes of ram.  Also it has been
  88. run on several upper memory managers for the 386's and
  89. above, with no problems.  Here are the basic requirements
  90. for running Hang4:
  91.  
  92.                 Dos 3.0 +
  93.                 144k memory
  94.                 Mouse is a MUST
  95.                 320x200 video capable of 256 colors
  96.                 Files=10 ( or more, in CONFIG.SYS )

  99. please let me be the 2nd person to know.  You being the 1rst  of
  100. course.  This program in no way is a memory hog and I purposely
  101. designed it that way.  So good luck and thank you for trying my
